Formal and informal writing Comic

Last week in english we have been working on identifying informal and formal writing styles and language. Today we started making comics to show the difference between informal and formal writing. This is my comic, I hope you enjoy reading it.

About Me

Kia Ora everybody. My name is Astin and I am a year 10 and I go to Bay of Island college. I am New Zealand Maori. I live near Kawakawa with my Mum and Sister and our two cats Katrina and Mog (cat and kitten). We also have 3 horses called Lulu, Stella and Ebony which hang out in the back paddock. 

This year so far has been a bit messed up but I have tried my best to keep up with all of the schoolwork:) I am good at drawing and science and I enjoy reading and learning about history. Some of my favourite books at the moment are the Divergent Series (Divergent, Insurgent, Alligient) and also books written by Louis Sachar, I have already read Holes and Small Steps and I am currently reading Cardturner. One of my goals  for this year (or what is left of it) is to learn alot especially in math because I want to be an Engineer or an Architect when I am older.    

I am looking foward to the Year 10 Camp an the end of the year because we can go to Urapukapuka and spent a week on the island. It will be fun going with my friends. I hope that it is not cancelled because of coronavirus:)

Rabbit Proof Fence

 This term in English we have been studying a film called The Rabbit Proof Fence. The movie was about three Aboriginal girls called Molly, Gracie and Daisy who were taken away from their families during the Stolen Generations. The Stolen Generations is a period in Australian history when European settlers took Aboriginal children from their families and put them in settlements where they were trained to be assimilated into European society. 

This movie follows their 1,266 km journey back to Jigalong after they escape from the River Moore settlement. 

I think that it is very  incredible the determination and perseverance these girls would have needed to complete their journey from River Moore back to Jigalong.

PST conference

On  the 8th of September (which is just over a month away) the school will be holding the parent student teacher conferences to talk about how well we are doing at school. In preparation of the PST's we have to write what marks we want to get for each subject and how we will achieved it. In all of my subjects I aim to achieve with excellence because it is important to always try your best at everything even if you aren't that good at it.

ENG: In english I am doing OK. Because of the lockdown it was difficult to catch up on all of the work we had.

VAD: It visual arts we have been learning how to draw and shade plants which I am enjoying so far because I like drawing.

SCI: I am doing very well in science and I think the only way for me get better is to do more work at home and revise for my tests.

MAT: I am doing well in maths, and I learn thing pretty fast so it is easy(ish) for me to learn new things.

SST: So far this year I have done OK in social studies. This term I am very proud of the level of work I have achieved.

HPE: I love P.E, it is one of my favourite classes which is why I try every sport even if I am not very good at it.

MOA: In Maori I am doing pretty well so far, although as a shy person, it is hard for me to stand up in front of the class and present things.

Binary

Today in Electronics class, we were learning about binary. Binary is a counting system that only uses two digits, one and two. Binary is also called base 2. We used cards that were black on one side and had the numbers of the 2 times tables on the other. We had to represent numbers that the teacher gave using these cards. After that we used this app to represent numbers in binary. We had to show the numbers 27,15,8 using the app. We also had to show our birth month. Guess which month is my birthday?
